The Department of Earth Sciences has defined the goals of its PhD in Petroleum Geosciences program as follows: stimulate research and development to foster innovative solutions to challenges in science, technology, and engineering, develop the next generation of leaders in academia to drive a knowledge economy in the UAE, advance the technological profile of the UAE and the regional oil and gas industry.
The MSc in Applied Chemistry is awarded to candidates who successfullycomplete the academic courses and research thesisrequirements of the program. The program is intended for candidates with abachelor’s degree in chemistry or other related specialization. The program’s typical length is four semesters, with the first three semesters requiring the completion of a combination of course work and thesis work, and the final semester only requiring thesis work and writing. The program is designed to give candidates an opportunity to enhance their knowledge of chemistry and develop research expertise and skills in instrumentation and methodology that will prepare them for careers in applied chemistry or to pursue a doctorate degree.[/vc_column_text]
The Master of Science in Computing and Information Science MSc(CIS) degree is awarded for successfully completing the requirements of a program of study that includes taught courses as well as a research-based thesis. The thesis is an independent investigation of specialized areas within the general field of CIS. The MSc in CIS gives candidates the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in the broad field of CIS and contribute to the process of discovery and knowledge creation through the conduct of original research. Candidates for this degree are taught and supervised by experienced faculty and are expected to demonstrate initiative in their approach and innovation in their work. In addition to successfully completing the taught course component of the program, candidates prepare and present a thesis on their chosen area. The Master of Engineering in Health, Safety and Environment Engineering degree program (M. Eng. in HSE Engineering) is designed for the educational preparation of two types of professionals:
Engineering graduates who are currently working as engineers in industry and who intend to stay in that type of job, but who want to embed HSE in their engineering functions. These graduates will have diverse capabilities in the various aspects of HSE and will use this knowledge to manage risk as they devise optimal engineering and operational solutions within the constraints of regulatory mandates and best practices. Engineering graduates who wish to assume varying levels of HSE responsibilities in one or more aspects of a company’s HSE department/program. These graduates will have sufficient background to assume the role of a general HSE engineering practitioner/ manager while possessing additional capabilities in any one of the offered HSE areas of concentrations.[/vc_column_text]

The M.Sc. in WEE program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges behind one of the foundations of sustainable development ensuring sufficient and equitable access to clean water. Furthermore, the program gives candidates the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in one of two specialization tracks of WEE, namely Water and Environmental Technologies or Water and Environmental Resources, and contribute to the process of discovery and knowledge creation through the conduct of original research.[/vc_column_text]
The degree of Master of Science by Research in Engineering (M.Sc. by ResEng) is awarded for successfully completing the requirements of a program of study, which includes a limited set of taught courses as well as a significant written thesis. The thesis is an independent investigation of a specialized areas within a particular engineering disciplines. The M.Sc. by ResEng gives candidates the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in the particular engineering field of interest and contribute to the process of discovery and knowledge creation through the conduct of original research. Candidates for this degree are taught and supervised by experienced faculty and are expected to demonstrate initiative in their approach and innovation in their work. In addition to successfully completing the taught course component of the program, candidates prepare and present a thesis on their chosen area. Research may be undertaken in several topics corresponding to the areas of focus identified by the University.
The degree of Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering (M.Sc. in NUCE) is awarded for candidates who successfully complete the taught courses, field trips, and thesis requirements of the program. The program is targeted for students with various backgrounds, such as graduates of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Mathematics or other pertinent specializations. The program starts with common core courses that cover essential Nuclear Engineering topics. On successful completion of the core courses students can select one of six tracks that covers specialized courses to prepare the students for their project/thesis work and broaden their expertise in specific areas of nuclear technology.
