They are at the forefront in planning, designing, constructing, maintaining and improving infrastructures and facilities such as roads, railroads, airports, bridges, harbours, channels, dams, irrigation projects, pipelines, power plants and water and sewage systems. Whilst catering for the future needs of the community, civil engineers also take on the responsibility of protecting public and environmental health by inspecting projects to ensure regulatory compliance by using the latest technologies and materials.
