BUiD recognises the importance of maintaining contact with its Alumni and has established an Alumni Society (AS) for this purpose. The Alumni Society aspires to provide the opportunity for graduates to continue their association and to offer their support to BUiD. All graduates are invited to join the AS. Membership is voluntary and a membership fee is not applied.

Academic and Experiential Requirements Applicants will be considered on the basis of their academic and professional qualifications regardless of race, colour, gender, marital status, religion, disabilities, age or national origin. Applicants will need to demonstrate the potential to carry out rigorous research at the post graduate level. The following table provides information on the requirements for eligibility and selection criteria considered for admission: Application Eligibility Requirements: 1 A recognised master's degree (or equivalent or higher qualification) in ASBE or ASBE related subject with a cumulative grade point average of greater than 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale or its equivalent 2 Documentary evidence of minimum EmSat English score 1400 or TOEFL score of 550 or its equivalent in a standardized English language test such as 6.0 IELTS or in City & Guilds, Pearson, or Cambridge or any another standardized test as approved by MOHESR 3 The chosen area of ASBE study is one which can be supervised by staff within the University Selection criteria: 4 Work experience: Relevant work experience will be considered. Considerable experience (3 years or more) in an ASBE or related environment is desirable. 5 Interview: Satisfactory admissions interview by a panel of at least two academics will be mandatory 6 Research experience: Evidence of training in research and research work will be considered. 7 An initial proposal for research, including motivation to study for a PhD will be considered. 8 References: Supporting references will be required. Notes: 1) Where the masters degree does not have a GPA score, candidates will need to demonstrate that they attained a level of 60% or more on the dissertation or project component of their master's degree or demonstrate outstanding academic achievement on the taught element of such a programme. 2) The following are examples of subject areas which may be deemed relevant to the PhD in ASBE: Architecture, Architectural engineering, interior design, Building, Building science, Building services Engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, etc. People with other backgrounds may also be considered on a case by case basis. The selection of a research territory by a student will take into account the student's background and previous academic area of study. Award and Degree Completion Requirements Award The successful student will receive the award of PhD, from the British University in Dubai. The award is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Degree Completion Requirements In order to receive degree of PhD the Students will need to have successfully completed the taught elements of the programme and the independent research element through the presentation of a substantial thesis. The thesis for the PhD is expected to be the equivalent of approximately 80,000 words. Students will therefore need to have accumulated 540 D-level credits with 180 credits awarded for the successful completion of the 7 taught modules and 360 credits for the successful completion and defence of the thesis.
