The United Arab Emirates’ march towards globalization has created the need for professionally trained people to lead and manage the legal aspects of a global economy. The UAE is a contracting party to General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and one of the founding Members of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The Commercial Agency Law (revised in June 2010) is based on the principle of free and open economy that encourages local and international investment from people of all nationalities. To foster international trading ties and to attract MNCs & TNCs to establish their affiliates in the country, the UAE has signed several free trade agreements (FTAs) with the EU, the U.S., Australia, New Zealand and with all major economies of the world. Several new joint stock companies (both public & private) have been established in the UAE. The nation has a legal infrastructure to participate in the world economy.
The College of Law seeks to establish a three-dimensional Ph.D. program in public law to achieve: post-cognitive and post-disciplinary after meaningful research in the field of legal studies and follow up the latest comparative legal systems, and take advantage and utilizing every new aspect in the field of legal knowledge and skills. Also, the program aims to develop qualified nationals in the UAE to lead to strategic planning in all areas, such as human development, qualified legal and judicial practitioners and in the field of higher education to meet the needs of the renewed labor in the market.
By establishing the master’s program in law, the College of Law seeks to achieve three dimensions: post-cognitive, post-specialization and post-objective research in legal studies. This requires the Collage to follow the comparative contemporary legal systems and to take advantage of all aspect of modernity in the legal field, especially in the technology area and its impact on curricula and teaching methods. It aims also to develop the national qualified people in the country as it adopts the concept of strategic planning in all areas.
