Doctor of Philosophy in History & Islamic Civilization
The PhD History and Islamic Civilization is a pioneering programme and the only one of its kind in the UAE. It is unique in the field as, unlike traditional programmes, it does not focus on unidimensional studies that follow a single historical phenomenon or subject in a particular historical period. It places more emphasis on the critical, analytical and comparative studies of two or more phenomena in the field. This prompts more comprehensive studies. The programme also adopts a state-of-the-art approach employing knowledge gained from different academic fields to the study of history and civilization.
Bachelor of Arts in International Relations
Identify the principal theoretical approaches to the study of international relations and the relationships between them.
Compare and contrast alternative systems of governance throughout the Arab Gulf region and other parts of the world that are of particular significance to the United Arab Emirates and the Arab Gulf region.
Analyze international affairs by using theoretical concepts and ideas from more than one international relations-related discipline.
Apply qualitative and quantitative methods and problem-solving skills to analyze
Evaluate and apply diverse perspectives to complex subjects within natural and human systems in the face of multiple and even conflicting positions.

Arts in Arabic Language and Literature
The Department of Arabic Language and Literature was established in the academic year 1997-1998, coinciding with the establishment of the University of Sharjah. The department has graduated a good number of students in the bachelor’s degree program since then. The M.A program was also launched in 2001, which attracted a good number of students, some of whom completed the requirements of the M.A degree in Arabic Language and Literature.
The Department of Arabic Language and Literature has witnessed a remarkable development in the number of students applying for the program as the M.A program is responding to the development requirements in the UAE. It also fulfills the desire of the University of Sharjah to meet the growing needs of the local and regional community in graduating specialized researchers of Arabic Language and Literature.
Doctor of Philosophy in Arabic Language and Literature
The program has witnessed a significant development in the number of applicants. The postgraduate program (Master Degree) has responded to the development and modernization requirements in the UAE and fulfilled the goal of the University of Sharjah to meet the growing needs of the local and regional communities through graduating scholars and specialists in scientific researches in the field of Arabic language and its literature.
The Arabic Department opened the PhD program after being accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to meet the requirements of the UAE and keep up with the apparent scientific development.

Master of Arts in History and Islamic Civilization
The Department of History and Islamic Civilization is recognized for its pioneering projects in the UAE. It was established the same year the University of Sharjah was inaugurated and was the first to offer a master’s degree in history along with its bachelor’s degree. It was also one of the first department in the university to receive academic accreditation from the then Ministry of Higher Education and Research in 2002/2003.
The significant role this department is envisaged to play in strengthening the Arab and Muslim identity was emphasized when His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah taught here when the department was first established. This has also had a substantial effect on the development and progress of the department.
