Fundamentals of Investment

This course serves as an introduction to the overall investment environment, including the various investment markets, information, and transactions. It covers the conceptual tools needed by the investors – the concepts of return and risk and the basic approaches to portfolio management. It examines the most popular types of investments, ie common stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, and discusses how to construct and administer a portfolio. It also introduces derivative securities – mainly options and futures. Students will learn about the decision making implications and consequences of each investment action made through the various investment vehicles and strategies.
